Surface contour of the bones

1. Acetabulum

A deep, and smooth articular cavity.

2. Glenoid cavity

Large, smooth, and shallow articular cavity.

3. Fovea

It is a small depression which is non-articular.

4. Facet

It is a small articular surface, which may be flat, concave, or convex.

5. Crest

It is a linear sharp ridge.

6. Line

Very faint ridge.

7. Foramen

A natural opening/perforation in a bone.

8. Canal

If the foramen has a length and has a second opening in the anterior of the bone that tunnel is called a canal.

9. Condyle

It is a smooth, convex articular large cylindrical mass situated at the distal end of the long bones.

10. Epicondyle

The rough, enlarged part, which is proximal to the condyle.

11. Trochlea

It is a pully like articular mass.

12. Cochlea

It is an articular surface reciprocal to the trochlea.

13. Fossa

A large, non-articular depression.

14. Head

Rounded, smooth, strongly convex articular projecting mass, situated at the proximal end of a long bone.

15. Neck

The constricted attachment between head and shaft.

16. Process

A general term for a prominence.

17. Sinus

It is a large air cavity within a bone.

18. Spine

It is an elongated thin pointed speck.

19. Trochanter

Tuberosities present on the femur bone.

20. Tubercle

A small, non-articular projection.

21. Tuberosity

A relatively large, non-articular projection.
