Pleurocentesis
Pleurocentesis is done to remove fluid from the pleural cavity at the lowest safe point in the standing animal. This is done in the recess at caudal mediastinal space. This space is variable among species and in right and left sides. As a rule puncture the intercostal space midway between ribs and somewhat dorsal to the junction of the costochondral junction to avoid ventral intercostals vessels.
