Fecal examination



Objective

  • To diagnose the eggs of parasites.
  • To know the extent of burden of parasites.
  • For research purposes.
  • For separation and cultivation of eggs.

Material required

  • Petri dish
  • Spatula
  • Water
  • Microscope
  • Slides
  • Coverslips
  • Fresh fecal sample

Procedure

  • Mix a small amount of fecal sample with water in a petri dish.
  • Place a small drop of a mixture, free from debris, on the slide.
  • Place coverslip on it.
  • Observe under a microscope.
  • Identify the eggs.
Eggs: Eggs are double membranous and free from debris or water bubble. Their margins are smooth, not irregular.
