Identification of filamentous fungi


 
The following parameters should be taken care of while identification:
  1. Hyphae: septate or non-septate
  2. Mycelium: hyaline, colored/non-colored
  3. Types asexual spores: sporangiospores, conidia, arthrospores, blastospores
  4. Type of Sexual spores: oospores, zygospores, or ascospores. Types of fruit body containing asci and ascospores.
  5. Characteristics of asexual spore heads: sporangia – size, shape, color, location 6. Microscopic appearance of spores: size, color, surface (smooth/rough), number of cells
  6. Spore heads bearing conidia: single, chained, budding conidia.  
  7. The appearance of Sporangiophores or conidiophores: simple or branched if branched the types of branching.
