Determination of nitrogen free extract (NFE) in a feed sample
The nitrogen free extract (NFE) which comprises of sugar, starch, hemicelluloses is determined by difference. It is represented by the figure obtained, when the sum of water, crude protein, ether extract (EE), crude fiber, and ash of the feed sample is subtracted from 100. Since the figure is obtained by the difference, therefore, it includes the cumulative error of other determinations and thus is not an exact value.Calculation (By difference)
NFE % = 100 - (% CP + % EE + % CF + % Ash)When not dried sample
NFE % = 100 - (% CP + % EE + % CF + % Ash + % Moisture)
